But if you would rather have another type of business, consider becoming a “Retirement Consultant” to help firms and people prepare for retirement. Many firms are concerned that their potential retirees be happy and content after they leave their jobs. So these firms hire consultants to:
- Advise upcoming retirees on what’s ahead
- Suggest ways to obtain greater happiness in retirement
- Give information on taxes, Social Security, etc.
- Provide information on selling a home, moving, etc.
- Give data on retirement villages, good health care, etc.
The consultant is paid by the company, not the individual. So your fees can be such that you can make a lucrative living by having two or three firms for which you consult.
Where will you get information to use to help the retirees? There’s plenty in your local library and from the Federal government through the Government Printing Office.
One firm we know prepares and prints a retirement review which is sent to those people eligible for retirement in a few years. The retiree’s company pays the subscription cost. Since the information is the same for most people, the same book is used widely.

- Boats, cars, planes
- Model trains, ships, planes
Just get yourself a neat, low-cost catalog, run a few low-priced classified ads to get a mailing list, and send out your catalog. You will be delighted with the business you do in high-priced items for a hobby which people love.
And the money smells good, too!
